| 2004 - Present | Earlier in this time period I focused on building a Web Design business. It was called Guru Technical Services (Gurutec.com). You can see an archive of my site here. At the same time I was a stay-at-home parent for my children. We have four kids now, so more and more of my time was spent on parenting.
Around 2016 I started a new career path as a handyman and general contractor. I worked for various clients and companies doing home remodeling and repair work. A few years later my wife and I bought an investment home. Over a three year period, I remodeled the entire home. I did all of the work myself, excluding HVAC, plumbing, and electrical work. Interestingly, we used the home as an Airbnb rental for six months where I did all of the customer service and management (perfect 5.0 rating as a superhost). From 2023 - 2025 I finished my Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering (4.0 GPA) and my Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics and Data Science (4.0 GPA). At the same time I worked to grow my YouTube channel, working on my skills in video production, editing, and media management. |
| 2000–2004 | I worked for Resource One, Inc. in my first professional role after graduating from college. I worked in the IT department, providing technical support for clients and printing direct marketing materials. I managed client databases and performed laser printer maintenance. Later, in 2004, I transitioned to a role in web application development, using Visual Basic, ASP.NET, SQL Server and MS Access to create web applications for external clients. |
| College Years | I worked with the Oklahoma State University Public Safety department (OSU Police). I worked with other students in the parking department. Mostly, I wrote parking tickets for vehicles that were parked in violation of university regulations. It was a rewarding job because I also got to help with football games and was able to spend some time on the field.
For the last year of my college career, I was tasked by the OSU Police department to modernize and expand the department's website. |
| College Summers | I am truly thankful that I was able to do something different every summer when I was in college. Two summers I worked for T.D. Williamson, Inc. The first was maintaining the green spaces (lawn care) around the main campus. The second was an internship with the Engineering department. I worked with the engineers to create a searchable interface for their parts and tools. I also was able to help with their test pipeline loop. I learned about pipeline pigging and how to test them in a real-world setting.
Other summer adventures included working for the Oklahoma State University Painting department for a summer break. Another year I worked with Discoveryland in Sand Springs, OK. This was where the musical Oklahoma! was performed. I worked in various areas, including concessions and parking. |
| Before College | I was fortunate to start working at the age of 12 delivering newspapers for the Tulsa Tribune. This was my afternoon gig for about four years. Later, I had jobs as a server with Casa Bonita and El Chico restaurants. |
